YORK City have signed released Falkirk forward Alex Harris.

The Edinburgh-born, 24-year-old has scored ten goals in 118 games at Scottish Premier League and Championship level for Hibernian, Dundee, Queen of the South and Falkirk.

Harris also won two caps for Scotland under-19s and played for Hibernian in the 2013 Scottish FA Cup final against Celtic, completing the full 90 minutes at the age of 18 in front of 51,254 fans at Hampden Park.

Hibs lost 3-0 to the Glasgow giants, but Harris had earlier played his part in getting his side there by scoring during a 4-3 semi-final success at Falkirk.

He had only made his senior debut earlier that season during a 3-0 Scottish Premier League victory over Dundee but went on to play in the Europa League for the Edinburgh club at the start of the following campaign, with Hibs crashing out 9-0 on aggregate to Sweden’s 1979 European Cup finalists Malmo.

There was then disappointment at the end of that season when he was a member of the team that lost a two-legged, play-off contest against Hamilton Academicals, meaning the Easter Road club were relegated.

Harris subsequently secured a move back into the Scottish top-flight with Dundee midway through the next season, but has spent the last three campaigns at the level below with Queen of the South, Hibs and Falkirk, netting three times in 16 outings with the latter last season On his first signing as caretaker-manager, Sam Collins said: "Alex has been training with us for two weeks and I have been really impressed with how he has done. He scored in a behind-closed-doors friendly against Hartlepool last week and did well in another private game against Leeds on Tuesday afternoon.

"He is very attack-minded, very creative, and he fits in with the way we want to play. He is a right-footed player who is flexible enough to operate as a winger or in the number-10 role just off the front striker.

"He is a different type of player to what we have already got and his pedigree is good."

Harris goes straight into the City squad for Saturday's FA Cup second qualifying round tie against Ashton Athletic at Bootham Crescent, kick-off 3pm.
