AMBITIOUS walkers braved the rain and hiked up to the summit of Snowdon to raise money for a hydrotherapy pool.

A total of 14 staff members, from Ysgol Tir Morfa Community Special School in Rhyl, took on the challenge.

The school are attempting to raise £100,000 in order to build a hydrotherapy pool at the school. Staff, parents, pupils and friends have so far raised more than £30,000 through various events.

Rhona O'Neill, headteacher at Ysgol Tir Morfa, said: "The hike took place to raise money towards a hydrotherapy pool for the school and community.

"At present, pupils are transported weekly on a 40 mile round trip to Ysgol Pen Coch in Flintshire in order for them to benefit from hydrotherapy sessions.

"The benefits for the pupils, who all have been referred for hydrotherapy by the physiotherapy department, include increased freedom of movement, relaxation, a reduction of pain and improved circulation, joint movement and self-confidence.

"The Snowdon walk was a fantastic challenge. Staff members looked out for each other and encouraged others to succeed.

"These actions up a mountain, in poor weather conditions, highlighted the great sense of team spirit that is present at the school and sheer determination to raise funds for the pool."
