THE famous Atlas fountain at Castle Howard has been photographed countless times.
Few photographers, however, have captured quite so well both the movement of the water and the enormous, crushing weight of the world on Atlas’s shoulders as has Lottie Alexander.
Lottie’s Atlas has been brought to his knees by the burdens he carries, while the water pummels down relentlessly, unwilling to let him rise.
It is the standout image in today’s selection of photos by members of The Press Camera Club.
But there are some other lovely shots, too: two sunsets (one in York, one in The Lakes); a lovely, limpid waterfall in the Yorkshire Dales; and a day out at Whitby, the boardwalk of the town’s pier reaching into the sea.
There are even two insects (one real, one - Simon Lombard’s
‘unexpected encounter’ - very much mechanical); each, in its way, a study of moving parts and intricate detail.
