A MAN has been arrested after a woman was taken to hospital following a suspected drug overdose in a York park.

North Yorkshire Police were called to Haxby Road Park at just after midday on Monday, where a woman in her mid-thirties received emergency treatment at the scene before being taken by ambulance to York Hospital where police said she remained in "a serious but stable condition".

A police spokesman said a 41-year-old man had been arrested on suspicion of supplying a controlled drug, and remained in custody on Monday evening.

He said: "A cordon has been put in place while the police investigate the incident and to allow council staff to carry out an inspection and clean the area in case there are any drug-related items which could pose a danger to others, including children who use the park."
