A FORMER assistant director of music at York Minster is returning to the city to give a talk.
David Pipe will be giving a talk entitled, The Organist: an Endangered Species? this Friday, September 21 at 7.30pm in St Lawrence Church Hall on Lawrence Street in York.
David is the director of organists’ training programme, organist at Leeds Catholic Cathedral, and principal conductor of the York Musical Society.
He was previously assistant director of music at the Minster and has appeared as both organist and conductor on national television and radio, and has featured on several recordings as organist and continuo player.
His first solo recording, a disc of original organ works and transcriptions by Liszt and Brahms, was released in 2012 on the SFZ Music label and was previewed on Radio 3’s In tune programme. It was subsequently voted ‘Recording of the Month’ on MusicWeb International.
Tea and cake will follow David’s talk and a chance to meet him and chat.
Everyone is welcome; entry is free but there is a £2 suggested donation on the night.
