STROKE survivors from the York area have cycled 25 miles today to help others affected by the condition.

Jo Milan, Michelle Ruddock and Jane Steel, who are members of York Speakability Group, set off from Hospital Fields Road and pedalled across the Millennium Bridge and along the York to Selby cycle track to Barlby, and back again. They were accompanied by Steve Gray and Steve Ruddock.

Jo, 55, from Haxby, who has been overcoming the effects of a stroke nine years ago which left her with aphasia and limited movement in her right hand side, said: "It was fantastic. We set off at 9.30am and finished at 2.30pm. The weather was lovely."

She said funds were raised for a different charity each year, with £7,700 raised so far, and this year she was hoping up to £1,000 would be raised in support of the Stroke Association.
