A 22-YEAR-OLD man has appeared before York Magistrates' Court on Thursday, September 13, accused of attacking a 71-year-old woman in the street.
Jack Slater, of no fixed address, and formerly of north York, is charged with causing actual bodily harm to the woman outside the Co-op store in Beckfield Lane, Acomb, at about 5pm on Tuesday.
Magistrates decided the case was too serious for them and sent him to York Crown Court. They remanded him in custody.
Slater, who was represented by solicitor Jacky East, did not enter a plea.
He will appear before the higher court on October 4 for a plea and trial preparation hearing.
