THE next phase of upgrade works to York's outer ring road is set to go ahead after it was approved at a council meeting.

Improvement works will take place at Monks Cross roundabout as part of the £38 million scheme to reduce traffic jams. It will be the second of seven roundabouts on the A1237 to get wider entrances and exits during the next four years. City of York Council 's engineering team will now prepare for work to start after the executive member for transport and planning Cllr Peter Dew approved the plans.

He said: “I’m delighted to approve the next step in the York Outer Ring Road upgrade scheme. This is the next stepping stone in our drive to improve seven key roundabouts along the outer ring road and help to reduce journey times for residents, businesses and visitors. I’d also like to thank people for their understanding and co-operation during the works at Wetherby Road roundabout which are on schedule to be completed in early 2019.” The improvement programme is funded by the West Yorkshire-plus Transport Fund, and the Leeds City Region Growth Deal.
