FIREFIGHTERS have freed a man who was trapped in a car which overturned in a crash on the A64 this morning.

North Yorkshire Police said it was called to the collision involving two cars near Sand Hutton at 8.20am, and fire crews and paramedics also attended.

A man in his early 20s was freed from a Honda car that was on its roof by firefighters using hydraulic cutting equipment, North Yorkshire fire service said.

He was taken to hospital by ambulance with minor injuries, the service added.

The driver of the other car, a Volkswagen, was not trapped and suffered a minor injury, the service said.

The road was closed but reopened at 9.30am.

The collision caused heavy traffic to build up.
