SMOKERS are being encouraged to quit as part of a campaign that says one in two people who smoke will die from an illness related to the habit.
City of York Council is urging people to contact the YorWellbeing service for advice on how to stop smoking as research shows nine out of ten smokers underestimate the risks of smoking.
Dr Caroline Everett, consultant respiratory physician, at York Hospital, said: “Stopping smoking is one of the single most effective things you can do to improve your health and life expectancy."
Anyone who wants to quit should call 01904 553377 or email yorwellbeing@york.gov.uk.
