MORE than 300 patients were admitted to intensive care units in Yorkshire and the Humber last winter due to flu - up from 117 admissions the previous winter.
The figure was revealed as it emerged that a more effective flu vaccine has the potential to prevent deaths and significantly reduce the burden on the NHS next winter.
The new vaccine is expected to significantly boost effectiveness by improving the body’s immune response to the vaccine. Pregnant women are particularly being urged to get vaccinated.
