A YORK reading group has just turned 20 years young.
Clifton Explore Library’s group celebrated by helping Explore to choose a range of new titles to be added to Clifton library’s reading group collections.
Tesco at Clifton Moor also provided a cake for the occasion.
The group has met once a month since September 4, 1998, when they discussed The God of Small Things by Arundhati Roy.
Sharon Jenkyns, a member of the original group, now leads proceedings.
Over the past 20 years, the group has read and discussed over 220 titles in a range of genres, including fiction, biographies, poetry and children’s books.
Explore York supports over 100 reading groups, both library-run and independent. It is free to register a group at any library in York, which will give access to reading group collections and an extended loan period.
The full list of collections can be found at www.exploreyork.org.uk
