SHAKIN’ Stevens, Britain's biggest-selling pop star of the 1980s, has lined up three Yorkshire dates for his spring 2019 tour.

The 70-year-old Welsh rock'n'roller will play Harrogate Royal Hall on March 15, Hull City Hall on March 23 and Leeds Town Hall the following night.

Platinum-selling Shaky and his band will perform fan favourites, surprises and multiple much-loved hits, such as Oh Julie, Hot Dog, This Ole House and Green Door from a discography of 33 chart singles.

He returned to the British charts in 2016 with Echoes Of Our Times, an album of blues, folk, rock'n'roll and Americana originals inspired by Shaky’s research into his family history that uncovered tales of wartime heroics, Salvationists and strife in the copper mines of Cornwall. In May that year he showcased the album, alongside Shaky smashes, at York Barbican.

Looking ahead to his 18 dates next March, Ely-born Shaky says: "I’ve been going through my catalogue of songs in preparation for the tour, and re-introducing myself to the many and varied styles of music I’ve recorded during my solo career.

"From country rock to Cajun, classic rock to Latin, and blues to Americana, I’ve had the pleasure of re-discovering the 'jewels' from my repertoire that are so well liked. Of course there’ll be hits and some songs that I haven’t performed live on stage for a decade or two….so some surprises!

"I’ll also include well-known songs from other artists whose work I admire, together with album tracks and newer songs, bringing it right up to date. I can’t wait to get back on the road and to have a great time with the audiences."
