WINTER is almost upon us and East Riding of Yorkshire Council is urging people who are eligible for a free flu jab to take up the offer.

Free flu jabs are available from GPs and pharmacies for those in at-risk groups.

These include people over 65, anyone with a long-term health condition, pregnant women, people in residential care homes and carers.

Children aged from two to nine years will be offered the vaccination as a nasal spray, while school-aged children will benefit from a school-based programme.

Mike McDermott, associate director of public health, said: "The more people who are vaccinated, the lower the likelihood and spread of infection, reducing pressure on the NHS."

Flu clinic times are available at GP practices. For more details about who should get the jab visit www.nhs.uk .
