A 48-year-old moped rider has died after a crash on the A59 Boroughbridge Road in the early hours of this morning.
A North Yorkshire Police spokesman said the accident happened near Plantation Drive early this morning and that the crash was sadly a fatal collision involving a silver Piaggio moped travelling towards the ring road.
The road was shut in both directions between Carr Lane and Ouseburn Avenue but has now reopened. Police had earlier said the man was riding a motorcycle.
A spokesman for North Yorkshire Fire Service said fire crews were on their way back from another incident at about 5.40am when they discovered a motorbike in the road.
Police are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to call them on 101.
