THE NATIONAL Trust in York is throwing open the doors of three of its stately homes.
This weekend, Treasurer’s House and Goddards House and Garden will be welcoming the public for free, as part of this month’s Heritage Open Days festival.
Treasurer’s House, in the shadow of the Minster, has a fascinating history spanning 2,000 years and was once the home of Georgian astronomer John Goodricke.
The first house given to the Trust, complete with all of its contents, it will be offering guided tours.
Goddards House, on Knavesmire, is the former home of Noel Terry, of the Terry’s of York chocolate firm.
Until recently it was used as National Trust offices, and boasts exhibitions, period rooms and five acres of gardens to explore.
More events are planned for next weekend, September 15/16 including free entry to Beningbrough Hall, Gallery and Gardens. Visit the National Trust website for details.
