A HERITAGE open day will take place at Naburn Locks near York on Sunday, giving people the chance to find out more about this historically important canal site.
The free event, organised by Canal & River Trust, runs between 10am and 4pm, and will feature live music, boat trips, stalls and a variety of activities for the kids.
The Trust’s volunteers will be leading guided tours of the 18th century lock and weir, which in its time was the finest example of waterways engineering, and the restored 19th century workshops and blacksmiths forges. Naburn Locks are on the River Ouse, six miles south of York (YO19 4RU).
