A NEW local radio station has hit the airwaves of York.

"Fast-growing feel-good station" YO1 Radio, which was awarded a community radio licence in February, launched its FM frequency on Bank Holiday Monday.

The launch party took place in the Coppergate Centre, with York band The Superlicks leading the fun.

The station, based on Clifton Moor, has been broadcasting online since September last year, but can now be found on 102.8FM across York and the surrounding areas.

It boasts a 24-hour mix of music from Swinging Sixties to new sounds and local artists, with specialist shows from 8pm on weekdays and 6pm at weekends.

Programming director and breakfast host, Chris Marsden, said: "Over the last 12 months we've been constantly asked by people who still listen to FM radio, in places like their car or their workplace, how they can make the switch.

"Now it's as easy as doing a quick scan and re-setting their pre-sets.

Director and co-host, Carla Ballantine, added: "We've been amazed by the reaction.

"We know that the FM frequency is something our listeners have requested, so we've listened to what our audience and advertisers have told us and opened up the ways people can be part of the YO1 experience."

As well as the new FM frequency, YO1 is available via a free IOS and Android app, Tune-In, Smart TVs and online at www.yo1radio.co.uk .

It offers free advertising to charities and social groups.
