YOUNG photographers in the York and Selby area have the chance to win a brand-new GoPro Hero camera in a wildlife photography competition.

Escrick-based environmental charity the Hagge Woods Trust is running Snap Wild, a wildlife photography competition, to encourage young people to explore the wildlife on their doorstep.

The competition is organised as part of the Heritage Lottery Funded Hagge Woods Trust Eco-Explorers project in partnership with Project: WILD C.I.C. and Girlguiding UK Abbey Division. It is open to anyone 16 or younger, judged in two age categories: 12-16 and under 12s.

The closing date for entries is midnight on September 9. ntries are invited in three categories: Up Close and Personal, Life in Motion and Wildlife Haven. Each young photographer can enter one photo per category.

The overall winner of each age group will receive a brand-new GoPro Hero camera, worth £200, with category winners and runners up being awarded generous cash prizes.

The Snap Wild Prizegiving and Exhibition is being held at Selby Abbey on the September 28 at 7.00pm. Winners and runners up will be notified within 14 days of the closing date of the competition and all entrants will be invited to attend the event.

This competition offers a wonderful opportunity for young people to engage with the wildlife around them.”

The Hagge Woods Trust manages the 25-acre Three Hagges Wood Meadow, near Escrick. The wood meadow is one of the largest areas of newly-created deciduous woodland in Selby District in recent years. It has been planted with the help of the local community and is open to the public for the benefit of the community. The woodland holds enormous potential for educational and recreational events.
