TRAVELLING on a crowded plane, Steve feels dislocated and alone in Manic Chord Theatre's devised play The Economy Of Ecology at the York Theatre Royal Studio on September 13.

In a world of touch screens and social robots, he has lost the ability to make meaningful bonds with other people. Meanwhile, in a forest thousands of miles away, a sapling pokes its head through the leafy forest floor. Beneath the soil its roots begin to scramble for the one thing that guarantees its survival: a connection.

Conceived, devised and produced by Leeds company Manic Chord Theatre, The Economy Of Ecology is an urgent and provocative story about human relationships, communications and our impact on the natural world, where the often overlooked can sometimes become the simplest of solutions.

Manic Chord develop work through multi-disciplinary collaborations, combining physical storytelling, cutting-edge research and innovative design to explore its subject matter, in this case led by writer David Cartwright and director Sam Berrill. The resulting play uncovers the power of human touch and the unexpected links between all things, questioning whether we are a touch-deprived culture.

Tickets for September 13's 7.45pm performance are on sale at £12.50 on 01904 623568 or at yorktheatreroyal.co.uk.
