FREE guided walks are being held to give people an insight into Pocklington Canal’s varied past.
The walks vary in length to cater for amblers to ramblers, and vary between restored and unrestored sections of the canal.
The Canal & River Trust has helped set up a regular walking programme of two walks per month as part of a broader project funded through the Heritage Lottery Fund.
A three-mile walk takes place on the second Sunday of the month at 1pm starting at the Canal Head Information Centre (just off the A1079), with the next one on September 9. A six-mile walk takes place on the third Wednesday of the month at 10.30am starting at Melbourne Arms Moorings (off Main Street, Melbourne), so the next one is September 19. No booking is required – just turn up and wear suitable clothing for the weather.
The September 19 six-mile walk is the same day as the monthly afternoon tea and bake sale in Melbourne Methodist Chapel. The event runs from 2pm-4pm, and is raising funds for Macmillan Cancer Support.
