A LUXURY new student accommodation block - which features a gym, cinema and games room - has already sold out for the next academic year.

Work has now finished on the 106-bedroom development on Percy’s Lane, where prices range from £155 per week for a room in a six-bedroom town house, to £187 a week for a premier studio.

For their money, students also get high speed wifi, a subscription to rewards scheme Perkbox, a games room and courtyard area as well as access to the on-site gym and cinema.

Every room has now been reserved by students who are starting at either the University of York or York St John University next month.

Ann Scott, from York-based developer S Harrison, which worked on the scheme, said: “The new development now offers an exceptional standard of accommodation for students at both the University of York and York St John University, and will help to ease the high levels of demand for family housing stock in the city.

“Its outstanding communal facilities and finish, combined with its central location, which is just a short walk from Parliament Street and the city centre’s main retail and leisure core, have made it extremely popular. In recent years a huge amount of regeneration work has taken place around Percy’s Lane and this site was one of the final pieces of the jigsaw, that offered a huge amount of potential.”

She added there is a demand for “high quality and accessible student accommodation” in the city centre.

The site features a number of self-contained townhouses with their own front doors, which developers say are similar to a traditional shared student house “but with all the comforts modern students expect”.

There is also a mix of one, three, five and six-bedroom en-suite apartments available.

The new scheme is built on the unit formerly occupied by electrical repair and retail shop Herbert Todd & Son, which moved to a new premises at Monks Cross last year. The three and four storey block is owned by Empiric and will be managed by Hello Student.
