HORSERACING fans are to be given a behind-the-scenes look at the yards of some of Yorkshire’s best-known trainers.

A range of other attractions will also be on offer at this year’s instalment of the Malton Festival of Racing, which takes place on Sunday, September 16.

From 9am to noon, 13 yards across Ryedale - including those of Richard Fahey, John Quinn and Tim Easterby - will be open to visitors, who will also have the chance to look around Jack Berry House, the Injured Jockeys Fund’s northern base.

After meeting racehorses, stable staff and trainers in the morning, the programme moves to Highfield Gallops, with food, drink and shopping stalls to accompany the jockeys’ relay showjumping competition, dog show and children’s activities.

Sarah Fanning, regional welfare manager for the north at Racing Welfare, said of the festival: “It helps to highlight the success of racing in the north of England and provides a special opportunity to see the hard work that takes place behind the scenes.”

Tickets to the event are on sale at maltonfestivalofracing.co.uk. Adult tickets are £10, concessions £7.50 and 16 and under go free.
