ST LEONARD’S Hospice are taking to York Knavesmire next weekend with a double-header of charity events.

On Sunday, September 2, the fundraising team is staging the annual ‘It’s a Knockout’ event with the Paws for a Cause charity dog event for the first time.

Spectators are encouraged along to watch 27 teams battle it out in a series of silly games - which often involve a good soaking - in the style of the hit TV series.

At the same time, the hospice’s annual ‘Paws for a Cause’ sponsored dog walk and event will be taking part on another section of Knavesmire, including dog classes, obstacle courses and other activities.

Dog handlers have the choice of a gentle one-mile stroll or a more challenging four-mile trek. Pre-booking is advised.

In addition, East Yorkshire Agility Club will be there with its assault course and dogs can take part in various competitions or ‘Paws for a Pamper’, while the hospice’s Sunflower Art Festival winner, Kate Stephens, will be painting pet portraits.

There will also be stalls, entertainment and refreshments to keep spectators occupied.

Annie Keogh, fundraiser at St Leonard’s Hospice said: “This is the first time we’ve combined the two events and we’re really excited about it. It’s going to be a great atmosphere throughout the day – a real family fun day.

“Not only that, it’s a great way to raise thousands of pounds for St Leonard’s. We hope to see lots of spectators there cheering participants on and enjoying the spectacle.”

Entry for spectators is free, with the first It’s a Knockout tournament starting at 10.30am. Registration for Paws for a Cause opens at 9.15am. Parking is available all day for the suggested donation of £1.
