A YORK shopkeeper has refused to open his till for a robber after being threatened at knifepoint.

North Yorkshire Police said the incident happened at the Goldmine Mini Mart in Haxby Road at 11.10am on Monday.

“Aman entered the store and initially asked for an amount of tobacco,” said a spokesman. “He is then believed to have produced a knife and gone on to threaten the shop owner into opening the till drawer. The shop owner refused and the man left the shop with just the tobacco.”

He said police wanted to speak to a white man in his early 20s, 5’9” in height, with short light brown hair and two or three scratches or scars on the right of his face, and wearing a grey hoody with a black zip and toggles. Police have released a CCTV image of the man. Anyone with information should phone 101.
