CLECKHEATON'S Lois Toulson and Eden Cheng snatched gold for Great Britain in the women's synchronised 10m platform competition at the European Championships in Glasgow.

The pair moved up from third place after their penultimate dive to score 69.12 on their final attempt and edge Russia into the silver medal position with Germany taking bronze.

It was an unexpected success for the British pair, who were competing in only their second event together, with Londoner Cheng also marking her senior debut in style.

"There's a lot of potential here and it's very exciting," said Toulson, who is a member of Leeds Diving Club.

Cheng, who was making her senior debut, said: "We've only just teamed up this season so it's a surprise but I love diving out there with Lois."

Toulson's success follows on from winning bronze in the 10-metre women’s platform at the Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia in April.

She competed in the women’s synchronised 10m platform event at the 2016 Olympics with Tonia Couch, and also won silver in mixed 10m platform synchro at the 2017 World Aquatics Championships with Matty Lee.
