RYEDALE District Council has awarded grant funding to 11 local community groups.
Among them, Pickering Town Council was given a public open space and recreation grant of £28, 360.
The money will go towards the installation of new play equipment throughout Pickering.
It came from the development at the former Askham Bryan College site, now developed as housing.
Town Mayor, Joy Andrews, said: "Our project will see improvements at Hawthorn Lane, Manor Drive and Troutbeck Close play areas. New equipment, picnic tables and safety surfacing will be included to encourage children and families to play together."
The Grants Working Party, which recommends grants for approval, is now considering more applications for funding from community groups and local councils. The next closing date for the grants programme is September 7.
