A YORK political group said it has made a last minute attempt to stop the construction of a self storage warehouse they call a ‘monstrosity’.
Storage company MJ McCarthy’s has applied for permission to build a facility next door to Aldi in Water Lane in Clifton Without.
Liberal Democrats in Rawcliffe & Clifton Without have been delivering hundreds of leaflets in the housing estates surrounding the site to make sure residents have their say when the council’s planning committee meets on Thursday.
Campaigner Darryl Smalley said: “We have been campaigning against this development for many months now, primarily due to the height and it’s impact on a residential area. The development also fails to create many employment opportunities - this sort of site, in this location, on main bus routes and close to new residential development, could be utilised so much better.”
Planning officers have received 66 letters objecting to the project, which is recommended for approval.
