A POLICE chief has spoken to a landowner about civil action to remove travellers who have parked their caravans at a North Yorkshire cricket club.

North Yorkshire Police said earlier that it was 'working with local partners' after a number of caravans were parked on land at Whitley Bridge Cricket Club, near Selby.

Now the force has issued an update saying it is 'continuing to work with partner agencies to resolve the situation while supporting all who are involved.'

It said the policing commander for the York and Selby District, Superintendent Lindsey Robson, had spoken to the land owner who was progressing civil action.

"We thank the local community for their understanding as we work together to address their concerns and bring the situation to a conclusion," said a spokeswoman.

"Reassurance patrols will continue at the location until the situation has been resolved."
