AS if by magic, New Zealander Jarred Fell will be at York Barbican on August 10, headlining the Laugh Out Loud Comedy Club bill.

Joining him at 8pm will be Brian & Krysstal, Rob Mulholland and master of ceremonies Damion Larkin, who says: "Comedy magician Jarred Fell isn't just a normal magician. He combines a fast-paced, razor-sharp wit with his tornado-like approach to magic, gore and comedy.

"Jarred has been on the NZ Comedy scene professionally for several years now, performing at four New Zealand International Comedy Festivals and selling out numerous seasons of shows."

Brian & Krystal adopt the persona of depressed, desperate, down-on-their-luck comedians, browbeaten by the disappointments the world relentlessly heaps on them. "It may sound depressing but in fact it's hilarious," says Larkin.

Regular fixtures at the Edinburgh Fringe, the duo have worked all over Britain, as well as in Germany, South Africa, Spain, Denmark, Ireland and Australia.

Brian is the grumpy and deadpan one; his assistant Krysstal is the glamorous but ditzy one. "Their timing is exquisite, their humour dry and sometimes bawdy," says Larkin. "The often cheesy gags are all upbeat and sold with trademark pizzazz. The songs are a contradictory mix of the cheerful and the cheerless."

Rob Mulholland is one of the fastest-rising comics in the country. "Seemingly an odd man, he's much less creepy than he looks and is very tall and humorous," says Larkin. "His jokes are rapid-fire, his jeans are too tight and his jackets were once owned by dead men."
