AN ANGLER whose wife died of Motor Neurone Disease has raised more than £6,000 to help others with the devastating condition through a fishing contest he organised near York.
Graham Walker, of Newton-on-Derwent, held the annual event for the MND association at Pool Bridge Farm, Crockey Hill in memory of his wife Anne. The Angling Trust also held a family fishing day.
Mr Walker said the event was a 'huge success', despite clashing with the World Cup, adding: "Huge thanks go to Pool Bridge Farm, the coaches of the Angling Trust who gave their time and donated a considerable amount of money and to everyone who supported and sponsored the event.
"The fishing match was won by Peter Northrop with last year’s winner, Gareth Binns a close second. Anne’s sister, Judith Wright, who fished for the first time last year, came third with over 100 fish."
