THIRTY visitors from York’s twin town of Münster visited the city this month.
The latest group saw the total number of people visit York as part of the York-Münster Twinning scheme reach 500, and the organisation has urged that “Friendships must continue, despite Brexit”.
The Lord Mayor welcomed the group to the Guildhall, and a farewell dinner in Dringhouses was attended by more than 50 people, with speeches by the Sheriff of York and members of the York-Münster Twinning Association and its German counterpart.
Concern was expressed about Brexit and its future impact upon international links, as Jürgen Ilbring described how some German schools and colleges have already cancelled educational exchanges with Britain due to Brexit.
Jenny Robinson, Chair of the York-Münster Twinning Association, said the future was "not all bleak".
She added that the important thing is that the "people of York and Münster must continue their friendship and continue to learn from each other".
