THE first in a series of six-hour Eboracum Sessions will be launched with an Acoustic and Folk Sesh at The Black Swan Inn, Peasholme Green, York, on Saturday.

The first of its kind in York, this music showcase will feature six established acts from across Yorkshire in a family-friendly event designed to "offer audiences a live music experience in one of York’s finest pubs".

Curator Ellen Cole says: "I also run York’s Little Festival of Live Music, which takes place up to two times a year. The main festival is in September, while I tend to do a smaller version in March, which I usually do at The Black Swan Inn.

"After the March event, the landlord and landlady asked if I would consider hosting more events at their venue and after many talks we decided to go ahead, so the Eboracum Sessions were born.

"My aim from this event is attract a wide range of audiences: music lovers and those who have little gig experience or have never attended a music gig before. Eboracum Sessions will be an event where people can enjoy great food and drink while listening to the work of the finest acoustic and folk musicians that Yorkshire has to offer. I am super-happy with the line-up for the first event and there's something for everyone to enjoy."

The first Eboracum Sessions event will boast a rare set by Odin Dragonfly, an acoustic, multi-instrumental duo of past and present Mostly Autumn members, Heather Findlay and Angela Gordon.

Performing too will be York ethereal folk singer-songwriter Rachel Croft; acoustic storyteller and UK Unsigned Songwriter of the Year winner Gracie Falls, from the Yorkshire coast; York lullaby folk duo The Bronze, featuring Holly Taymar and Chris Bilton; York's Americana and roots music act Boss Caine and East Riding folk-Americana singer Edwina Hayes.

"We've sold 60 per cent of the tickets, but you can still buy in advance and there'll be tickets available throughout the day too, so please do pop down, even if it’s for a few hours," says Ellen. "Children can come for free if they're accompanied by an adult. It’s going to be an incredible day with performances from acts that you wouldn’t normally see together on a line-up; it’s definitely one not be missed.”

Saturday's Eboracum Sessions will run from 3pm to 9pm; tickets cost £6 now at eventbrite.co.uk/e/eboracum-sessions or £8 on the door from 2.45pm, subject to availability.
