CANDIDATES vying to become Leader of the Green Party took part in a hustings event in York on Saturday.
The event, hosted by York Green Party, was held at the Tramways Club on Mill Street, and was a chance for Yorkshire and Humber Green Party members to meet and hear what the candidates have to say before casting their votes in the internal elections closing on July 30.
On May 30, Caroline Lucas MP announced her intention to stand down from party co-leadership with Jonathan Bartley
Mr Bartley is now running for re-election, in a job share with Sian Berry, who currently serves as a London Assembly member.
They are up against other leadership hopefuls Shahrar Ali, who was deputy leader alongside Amelia Womack between 2014 and 2016, and Leslie Rowe of the Richmond constituency who stood for 2017 election to North Yorkshire County Council.
As well as the position of Leader, the role of deputy leader is also up for election, along with 10 other positions on the Green Party Executive.
The positions of Leader and Deputy Leader are being elected for a two-year term and Cllr Andrew Cooper of Kirklees council is running for Deputy Leader against the incumbent, Amelia Womack.
