WELSH rock band Stereophonics are in Scarborough on Thursday night after promoters Cuffe and Taylor responded to fans' demands to bring Kelly Jones and co to the Yorkshire coast.

They play Europe’s largest open-air arena on the back of their tenth studio album, Scream Above The Sounds, achieving gold-certified sales, buoyed by radio play for the singles All In One Night, Caught By The Wind and Taken A Tumble.

Stereophonics line up on Thursday with founding members Kelly Jones, on vocals and guitar, and Richard Jones, on bass, alongside guitarist Adam Zindani, drummer Jamie Morrison and long-time live show addition Tony Kirkham on keyboards.

Scream Above The Sounds emerged 20 years after Stereophonics' debut with Word Gets Around, since when they have topped the charts with Performance And Cocktails in 1999; Just Enough Education To Perform in 2001; You Gotta Go There To Come Back in 2003; Language. Sex. Violence. Other? in 2005; Pull The Pin in 2007 and Keep The Village Alive in 2015.

Stereophonics played to 150,000 people on their spring arena tour. Tickets for Thursday are on sale at scarboroughopenairtheatre.com; on 01723 818111 or 01723 383636; in person from the Scarborough Open Air Theatre box office, in Burniston Road, and Discover Yorkshire Coast Tourism Bureau, in Scarborough Town Hall, St Nicholas Street, or on the gate from 6pm.
