YORK is the worst city in England for parking accidents, according to an insurance company.
Research by Admiral found that residents make the highest number of parking-related insurance claims.
Only Edinburgh had a higher rate of motorists claiming on their insurance policies for accidents that took place while they were parking.
Sabine Williams, Admiral's head of motors, said: "Parking prangs are common car insurance claims, accounting for one in 10 claims we deal with.
"We're still a long way from self-parking vehicles and while things like parking sensors can assist with manoeuvring tight spaces and can reduce the risk of bumping into something as you park, they certainly aren't fail-safe and they aren't in every vehicle."
The analysis showed 13.1 per cent of claims for accidents in 2017 in York were made because of parking manoeuvres.
And drivers aged between 17 and 24 were less likely to have an accident while parking while motorists aged 65 and older were more likely to claim for parking prangs, according to the study.arking, accounting for just 7.2% of claims.
