YORK has been gripped by football fever ahead of England’s semi-final clash against Croatia.

Official tailor to the England squad, M&S, has reported that waistcoat sales have doubled during the World Cup with online searches for waistcoats on the company’s website up by more than 100 per cent - and it’s all thanks to the influence of England manager Gareth Southgate.

Southgate has caused quite a stir during the tournament for his stylish sideline attire - a far cry from the usual football manager gear.

The menswear team at M&S, Parliament Street, says it still has the official England suit in stock, but only limited sizes of the waistcoat, while Gareth’s tie and blue shirt are completely sold out.

Those who want to get kitted out like the rest of the team may also be out of luck.

JD Sports supervisor Luke Sharpe said that the official team shirts had been “flying off the shelves” in both white and red and the store was fully sold out in many lines, even online.

Sports Direct also reported that its stocks were now limited to mini kits.

England will be playing in the white home strip tonight.
