Recent letters show considerable interest in York having a bus station.
York Bus Forum has been working on this, and we have just published new proposals for a bus interchange at the railway station. Details are at www.yorkbusforum.org/busstationreport
We propose a forward-looking transport interchange on both sides of the station, with a new walk-cycle bridge across the railway.
This in our view is much better than a mere bus station. It’s also better than the council’s recent proposals.
We also suggest an international architectural competition so that architects and engineers around the world will come up with the best possible designs for this area.
We need something visionary, just like the York station designed by Peachey and Prossor in the 1870s which still serves us well today.
