UP to five talented young musicians in York will get individual music tuition free, thanks to a new bursary scheme.

The scheme, backed by the city’s Company of Merchant Taylors and the York Music Hub, will help young musicians who are not able to afford the kind of specialist one to one instrumental tuition that is needed to realise their potential.

York Music Hub, the city’s music education partnership, is now looking for young musicians eligible for a bursary worth up to £600. Applicants must:

• be 18 years or under whilst in receipt of a bursary

• be able to demonstrate both talent and potential (typically Grade 5 or above)

• be eligible for free school meals or the pupil premium, or be looked after by the local authority

• live and/or go to school in York

• be learning with a tutor approved by the York Music Hub

There will be a maximum of five awards at any time and the scheme, which starts in September, will last for 12 months in the first instance. For details, email tim.brooks@yorkmusichub.org.uk. Expressions of interest should be made to info@yorkmusichub.org.uk.
