THE best in York building design was celebrated at a major awards night at the University of York last night.
More than 150 architects, developers and project managers packed into the Sir Ron Cooke Hub at the University of York for the annual York Design Awards.
The big winners on the night were the Opening Doors project at the Mansion House, which picked up two awards - the prestigious Lord Mayor's Award and the award for conservation and restoration - and Native Architects who picked up a total of three awards in different categories, including one for sustainable design.
Other winners included the Rowntree Park skate park, the Red Tower, York Conservation Trust for its restoration of 14 Lendal, and York Minster's Great East Window.
The Chocolate Works care village in the former Terry's building at Bishopthorpe Road, meanwhile, picked up the Press People's Award, voted for by readers of The Press and members of the public.
