CITY of York Council needs to find two new senior bosses after two of the authority’s four most senior directors resigned.

The council has four top “corporate directors” reporting to the chief executive. Two of those directors have handed in their notice, and city council chief executive Mary Weastell is asking councillors for permission to fill both vacancies.

A report for a staffing committee says the director of children, education and communities Jon Stonehouse and director of health, housing and adult social care Martin Farran are leaving in the coming months.

The jobs have salaries of up to £104,000 and could have “market supplements” on top of that to help the council fill the jobs.

Both have legal responsibilities at the council, and Ms Weastell wants to take on full-time replacements for both positions, while offering internal candidates the chance to fill in on an interim basis.
