CYCLISTS wanting to catch a train in Selby have been given a big boost.

An additional 144 secure cycle rack spaces have been created at the station through a partnership between TransPennine Express and Selby District Council.

The racks, positioned by the taxi office, mean a total of more than 200 bikes can now be parked at the station every day.

The move is designed to encourage more passengers to cycle to the station rather than drive, helping to reduce road congestion.

Charlie French, of TransPennine Express, said customers could choose to cycle to the station rather than drive, knowing they could leave their bike parked securely and protected from the weather.

Selby council leader Mark Crane said: “It’s great to see new facilities like these being expanded at Selby station to make it easier to travel.

" I’d like to continue to see new investment at the station, to encourage people to come into Selby," he added.
