A MAN suffered a significant injury after being assaulted outside a takeaway on Clarence Street.

Police are appealing for witnesses after the incident, which took place outside Pizza Delasosa on Saturday June 23 between 1.30am and 1.45am.

The 39-year-old victim was speaking to a woman he had just met outside the takeaway restaurant when the pair were approached by a couple.

Officers said the couple shouted abuse before the male suspect hit the victim twice in the head, knocking him to the floor.

The victim was taken to hospital where he needed stitches for an injury to his lip.

Police are keen to speak to the woman who was with the man at the time of the assault and have asked anyone with information about the incident to call 101 and ask for Rachel Shaw.
