ALREADY there are clear signs that an investment of about £150,000 in the White Hart Hotel and Conference Centre in Harrogate is working.

The aim of Robert Warren, the new general manager, is to make the more than 200-year-old 53 bedroom hotel overlooking 200 acres of strayland grass and trees in the heart of the Montpelier Quarter, the number one destination for conferences in Harrogate.

The number of business meetings hosted by the privately-run leasehold hotel has doubled to 20 over the past year.

Many take advantage of the hotel's 15 meeting and conference rooms that cater for up to 100 delegates and are equipped with hi-tech ceiling mounted data projector, DVD player, PA system, large screen laptops and stationery. The investment includes improvements to the en-suite bedrooms, as well has the creation of a bridal suite and restored floors in the main dining room with new carpeting throughout.

A new online booking service has been established and accounts for 15 per cent of all reservations, with visitors coming from as far afield as Australia.

The hotel is owned by the National Health Service which used the premises as a training centre.
