PEOPLE in Fulford will get chance to hear more about flood defence plans for their area next week.

A public meeting is being held for residents after £500,000 was earmarked for additional flood defences in the area.

The meeting is next Monday, June 11 at 6pm at Fulford Social Hall, School Lane and will be attended by Fulford councillor Keith Aspden, the city council's flood risk manager Steve Wragg, and the Environment Agency's project director Ben Hughes.

It will give people chance to ask questions and hear how the council and Environment Agency will talk to people in the area and develop new schemes - particularly plans for Fordlands Road bridge.

Cllr Aspden said the £500,000 investment was good news, but consultation with the community is now vital.

He added: "It is now vital that the Environment Agency and Council consult with residents and draw up plans that meet the local community’s needs.

"I have called this ward meeting to make sure that local residents receive a thorough update on potential proposals and be provided a first opportunity to suggest how the plans should be rolled out."
