A NEW exhibition of work by artist Simon Wilcox is set to be launched at a gallery in York city centre next week.

The exhibition at Village Gallery, in Colliergate, will showcase the Howden-based artist’s paintings of winter trees and landscapes, plus other work by him.

Simon Main, from the gallery, said: "Like many artists Simon Wilcox is drawn to the sweep of big skies, the shore, storms, hills and mountains - the places that make us feel insignificant in the eye of nature.

"He is also drawn to the jeopardy of working on a white board with indelible inks and traditional dip pens as it requires precision and has little room for mistakes or correction."

Other artwork on display and available to buy is the work of York-based batik artist Rebecca Mason, including scarves, ties, brooches and pictures, York based plein-air artist Malcolm Ludvigsen, Kirkybymoorside artist/photographer Heather Tabor, turned wood bowls and vases by Ralph Shuttleworth from Holmfirth, the limited edition bronze sculptures of renowned sculptor Edward Waites, and others.

The show starts on Tuesday and runs until June 30. Tickets for the exhibition’s preview evening on Monday, which Simon Wilcox will be attending, can be obtained by applying to Simon Main at village gallery.
