OF course Maurice Vassie cannot see a problem with the House of Lords (Letters, May 14).

In statements many have openly said they will oppose the UK leaving the EU - exactly the mantra of the remainers.

As for democracy, the house is weighted down with Liberal Democrats whose stated aim is to try to force another referendum. These people are totally unelected and collect a daily fee.

The Lords is too big and unelected, and the time is now right for it to be totally overhauled, and significantly reduced in size to an elected chamber of no more than 200 members.
