ONE Systems Group is one of those technology companies that works quietly "back stage" to keep the economy going.

Richard Knowles, the managing director, and his 25-strong team have been developing and growing, helping the transformation of British business from manual to hi-tech over the past 20 years, first in Harrogate and now at its headquarters at Little Ouseburn, York.

Today the £1.4 plus million turnover business software solutions provider has more than 400 clients and is entering not only the Science And Technology Business Of The Year category in The Press Business Awards 2007, but is also seeking the title of Think Green Business Of The Year.

The group's integral parts, One Systems Solutions Ltd and One Systems Support Ltd, work in partnership with hardware and software providers such as Global Software Systems, Sage and, in July, the NASDAQ-listed Lawson Software Inc.

Together they provide integrated, modular and bespoke solutions to streamline business processes and the time and data management of professional services organisations, distribution, retail, asset management, the food and beverage sector and other process/manufacturing companies in the UK.

So how does One Systems think green? Its marketing manager, Gil van der Sluis, says: "We take full advantage of new technologies to reduce our carbon footprint'.

"Home or remote working is encouraged and managers, sales developers and support staff make full use of broadband connectivity, so car miles are reduced."
