A CHURCH took a step back in time for a medieval day.
St Mary’s Priory Church in Old Malton organised the day of activities which included historical demonstrations with re-enactment group Regia Anglorum.
The group has been re-creating history for audiences around the world for over a quarter of a century.
At St Mary’s, they not only donned medieval battle gear but also demonstrated a host of traditional and historic customs and techniques such as weaving.
Helen Morgan, one of the event organisers, said: “It went well - we were quite happy with the weather.
“There was about 80 people including children, and people seemed to be very interested. There were more re-enactors than last year too.”
She added that one of the members of the re-enactment group also provided an historical tour of St Mary’s church to show people round.
Entry was free, and in addition to the demonstrations there were also a range of other displays, refreshments and activities for all ages.
A collection for the church was taken, though a total is yet to be reached.
Ms Morgan added: “It went really well and it will happen again next year.”
