ASKHAM Bryan College students are celebrating blooming marvellous success at Harrogate Spring Flower show.

Five horticultural students took Best in Show (Floristy) and a Gold Medal for their exhibit “The Natural Dressing Room” depicting a walk-in wardrobe of a model's couture dressing room.

Tristan Slater and Peter Farley both of York, Olivia Wain of Garforth,. Leeds, Poppy Brokenbrow of Tadcaster and Jennifer Gerrad of Huddersfield, used feathers, bark and wood with flowers to create handbags, hats and other part of the display.

Kate Pepper, senior lecturer in floristry, said: “They have put in hours and hours of work, and it's a mark of their skills and dedication to have achieved their success.

"As a college we have a long history of successes in horticulture so it's wonderful that that tradition continues. The five are all working at various high street flower shops around the area and I am sure this will be a great asset to their future careers.”

The college's green and purple Show Garden took a Silver Award on the theme "Tranquil Yorkshire" with an arbor, a rustic recycled sleeper path, Yorkshire Rose paved feature and a handcrafted gate.

The college' Secret Shed display was placed second in what is a new competition at the event.
